Walter Lampl Nautical Enchantaire Enameled Compact with 17 Jewel Watch
This remarkable compact/cigarette case is cleverly designed, with 3 compartments that open separately. Two are enamel-top compartments for cigarettes. The center compartment is topped by an enameled ship’s wheel with a 17 jewel Swiss watch at its center. This center compartment contains a compartment for loose powder, with a mirror inside the lid. The powder is dispensed into a reservoir at the front of the compartment by pushing a sliding lever. The original powder puff , with the Lampl mark, is included. The bottom of the reservoir is marked PAT. PENDING W.L. ENCHANTAIRE. This mark dates the piece to before 1937. All of the interior compartments are finished in engine-turned gold-tone metal. The enameling on the 2 side compartments and on the back is a peachy cream color. The ship's wheel is enameled in white and navy blue. The watch has been cleaned and runs well. This is a remarkable Art Deco compact/cigarette case showing all the qualities of innovation and charm typical of Lampl products.
