This lovely bracelet depicts 8 dancing apsara figures, arrayed along a silver cuff, and framed on either side by bands of applied twisted braiding and at each end by stylized cloud motifs. Apsaras are the traditional celestial beings found in both Hindu and Buddhist culture. They are a female spirit associated with clouds, water, and the dance. Beautiful, graceful, and elegant, they can change shape at will and cause anyone to fall in love with them. This is a substantial bracelet, composed of a double layer silver band with the braiding, ropework, and cloud images applied over the band. Although it is marked 925, a copper sheen can be seen below the silver on close examination. It appears to be of Thai (Siam) origin.
Measures 1 inch wide. Band is 6-1/2 inches long, with a 3/8 inch gap. Could be gently bent to fit a larger wrist. Weighs 1.6 ounces.
Very good vintage condition. Some evidence of past wearers bending the bracelet to fit or it being struck. No damage to any apsaras. Normal patina of vintage silver has been lightly cleaned.
