This outstanding Midcentury brooch features a huge, faceted, open-backed, smoky topaz-colored, heart-shaped glass stone prong-set in a sturdy reticulated gold-tone setting. The glass stone measures a whopping 30 mm. in diameter and is 12 mm. thick. The stone floats above its frame, which is an open-work wreath of leaves and berries, topped with a jaunty bow. The gold plating is dark, rich, and nuanced. The mark on the back of this piece is impossible to discern, but appears to be a 4 digit number. This is consistent with the marking system used by the British company Sphinx, as is the quality of construction, the type of stone used, and the thick golden plating. Safety clasp holds well.
Measures 1-3/4 inches in diameter and rises 3/4 inch proud.
