Cast Bronze Mouse Reading on Cheese Bookends - Pair

$140.00
Sold Out

This complete, original, and utterly delightful set of bookends is made of heavy cast metal with a beautifully patinated old bronze finish. Each is in the form of a mouse sitting on a wedge of swiss cheese reading a book. The heavy solid cast shells have their original internal concrete weights intact, providing excellent structure and functionality. They sit flat and stable without rocking. On the bottom of each is the completely intact original dense rubber pad and a label reading SAN PACIFIC SP SAN FRANCISCO MADE IN KOREA. This label identifies them as having been made by the San Pacific International company during the 1970s to 1980s.

Each measures 6 inches tall, with a base that is 2-3/4 inches at the widest point and 4 inches long from the back of the cheese to the point of the wedge at the front. Each weighs 2 pounds.

One bookend is in excellent vintage condition, with no notable flaws or damage to the rich, dark patina.

The other bookend is in very good vintage condition, but shows signs of age-related oxidation, with some light white surface residue and localized texture roughess on the metal finish in a few areas, especially on the top of its head between the ears and on the top of the cheese between its legs. There is also an area of roughness and oxidation at the back of the cheese, near the bottom. This can be seen in the photos.
