1950s Robia Ware Chalkware Asian Man Bookends - Roman Art Company

$64.00

These beautiful bookends appear to date to the 1950s. Each depicts an older bearded Asian man, sitting with legs crossed beside a red urn. He is wearing a broad straw hat and blue robes. His expression is contemplative, calm, and kind. These chalkware figures have been entirely handpainted, with beautiful detail in the face, clothing, sandals, and urn. They have the original green felt on the bottoms. One has the original maker’s sticker for ROMAN ART CO. ROBIA WARE. The condition is remarkably fine with only two small scuffs to the paint on the back of one figure. The paint is shiny and clean, with crisp colors.

Each measures 3 × 4-1/2 inches at the base and rises 7 inches tall to the top of the hat. Together they weigh 3-1/2 pounds.

Excellent vintage condition.
