This older hand-carved cedar totem pole features Raven and Bear, two important symbols of the Pacific Northwest Coastal indigenous peoples. Raven, at the top of the pole, represents creation, complexity, and transformation. Bear denotes strength, family ties, health, and courage. The figures are painted with traditional red, black, and blue colors. Cedar is sacred to the Native people of this area, as it provides materials for homes, canoes, artworks, household objects, and fiber for weaving hats and clothing. It is possible that this totem had carved wings at some point in the past, but its straight and simple elegance is consistent with full-sized poles seen throughout the Northwest.
Measures 6 inches tall.
Very good vintage condition.
