Mexican Modernist Erika Hult de Corral Brass & Malachite Pendant Necklace
This beautiful pendant necklace is the work of modern Mexican silver master, Erika Hult de Corral. Educated at the Parson’s School of Design, she worked closely with Enrique Ledesma and Sigi Pineda before opening her own studio. Corral’s designs are strongly Modern, even while continuing in the Mexican silver tradition. This necklace is entirely handcrafted, but is made of brass, rather than silver. The strongly architectural, geometric form appears to be inspired by Aztec design and is reminiscent of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. The openwork triangle is also evocative of Asian temple motifs. An elongated triangle of beautifully striated malachite finishes the design. The chain is also entirely handcrafted in brass. The simple fabricated hook closure holds well and blends seamlessly with the rest of the necklace. One of the bars of the necklace is shorter than the others. This touch of assymetry makes the necklace even more interesting. Marked Ric (in script) MEXICO LATON.
Pendant measures 2-1/4 × 1-1/4 inches. Chain measures 27-1/2 inches long.
Excellent vintage condition. Normal patina of vintage brass has been left undisturbed.
