These beautiful earrings are the work of Isidro Garcia Pina, who opened his workshop in Taxco in 1943 and marked his jewelry “Maricela” in honor of his oldest daughter. They are in the form of his favorite design, a flower that Pina called “orquidea” even though admitting that the shape was not truly that of an orchid. This same design was used in the logo for his workshop. The design is thoughtfully adapted to these earrings, with the stems and stamens of the flowers on both ears angled in towards the wearer’s face. The marks on this pair of earrings allows them to be dated to between 1948 and 1950, as the script style of the word Maricela is Pina’s earliest of 3 known marks but the presence of the Mexican eagle with a 3 inside dates the earrings to 1948 or later. The are also marked 925, HECHO EN MEXICO, TASCO, and STERLING. The screwback findings are marked separately - ALPACA. They are made of this more durable non-silver alloy.
Measure 1-1/4 inches in diameter. Weight is 11 grams.
Excellent vintage condition. Normal patina of vintage silver has been left undisturbed.
