1968 Judy Lee Iridescent Reverse Cameo Brooch or Enhancer - Watermelon Glass Stone
This beautiful brooch features a heliotrope “watermelon” faceted glass cameo showing a woman in profile molded into the back of the stone. The heliotrope stone casts a rainbow of purple, green, yellow, and hot pink. The recessed cameo is golden. This magnificent stone is prong-set, nestled into a brushed gold-tone elevated frame. The cameo and the outer border of the brooch are encircled by a golden rope motif. Around this metal frame are small aurora borealis rhinestones, for added shine. The frame is also pierced in 8 places for even more interest. Safety clasp holds well. A hook-style bale allows the brooch to be easily converted to a pendant or pearl enhancer. This brooch can be confidently attributed to Judy Lee, as it is known to be accompanied by earrings with that signature. The pieces were almost certainly created for Judy Lee by DeLizza & Elster, of “Juliana” fame, as this signature glass cameo is featured in the book “Juliana Jewelry Reference: DeLizza & Elster” by Ann Pitman, and D&E is known to have manufactured Judy Lee jewelry. The Pitman reference documents the use of these heliotrope cameos to 1967-1968.
Measures 1-3/4 × 2 inches and rises 1/2 inch proud.
Excellent vintage condition.
