This lovely vintage box is decorated in the traditional art form called Chokin. Similar to damascene work, precious metals are inlaid to create highly detailed etched and engraved designs. Chokin was originally developed as away to decorate the weapons of samurai. The lid of this porcelain box shows two geisha standing in a garden, looking towards a flowering tree and bird house on a post. Every detail of their gorgeous kimonos are shown, with cranes in flight, iris flowers chrysanthemums, and wave designs. One is holding a parasol. In the distance is a large pagoda-like building. The signature of the artist is engraved into the lower right. This scene is framed by a gold gilt rim, and a ring of gold gilt circles the black porcelain box. The bottom of the box reads:

On the side of the box is an affixed foil label reading Chokin ART 24KT Gold.
Box measures 4 inches in diameter and 2 inches high (with lid).
