Huge 1940s Walter Lampl Sterling Eagle Brooch with Tabby
This large, bold, highly sculptural American eagle is captured with its wings spread and its talons grasping the round foliar frame. Dating to World War II, this patriotic-themed brooch has fine detail and substantial heft, weighing 30 grams (1 ounce). It is marked WL in a shield and STERLING. In addition to the sturdy pin stem with safety clasp, this brooch also has a clip finding marked TABBY STERLING PAT. APL FOR. Patents for the Tabby were awarded in 1941. The Tabby finding was designed to clip onto the metal zipper pull tab of a jacket or sweater. The Tabby can also be used when converting this brooch for use as a pendant.
