This remarkable bracelet was produced in 1992 by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is a replica of an ancient piece from their collection. The original was created by Thracian goldsmiths circa 300 - 250 B.C.E. and was unearthed in a woman’s burial mound in what is now Bulgaria. The double-headed snake motif was popular among Thracian warriors. The snakes were made with heavy granulated beadwork and twisted wire filigree to create their facial features and scales. This sturdy replica is plated in richly burnished 24K gold. This is a big, heavy, beautifully-made bracelet. Marked 1992 MMA and with the copyright symbol.
Measures 7-3/4 inches inside circumference. Snake heads measure 5/8 inch at widest place.
