This elegant ring features 2 stones - a large baroque freshwater pearl and a speckled pink-ish amethyst - collet-set in gilded sterling. The band of the ring is a thick sterling wire, bent into an open spiral. This open design allows the ring to be adjusted to a wide range of sizes. The beauty of this ring rests in its simplicity and in the character of the stones. The pearl measures 9 × 11 mm. The nacre is richly iridescent and the color is a true white. The pearl has wonderful shape, with an irregular top. The 8 mm. ameythyst cabochon is a light pink-ish purple, speckled throughout with tiny black inclusions. This creates a depth of interest beyond that commonly found in this type of stone. The ring appears to have originally been plated with gold over the silver, but much of this has worn away, leaving a lovely patina that adds even more interest to this vintage ring. This artisan-made piece is unmarked.
