1950s Sweater Guard on Original Card

$25.00

This is an outstanding piece of fashion history. The sweater guard itself is a pair of engraved gold-tone clips, connected by a golden chain, with 3 stamped “coins” dangling from the chain. The coins bear the face of woman in profile. This is a fun and useful fashion item in its own right. The real star of this show, however, is the original card that still has it attached, apparently unused. It is printed with blue on cream and depicts a beautiful woman with her jacket thrown casually over her shoulders, secured by a sweater guard. She is wearing a very fitted and structured dress, with a strapless bra-like bodice. The back of the card bears a price tag from the original seller, Ochs Brothers, a department store in Faribult, Minnesota. The sweater guard appears to have never been used or removed from this card. The card has creasing, minor soiling, and light foxing, but the image is still crisp and relevant for lovers of Midcentury fashion.

Card measurs 4-1/4 × 5-1/2 inches. Each clip measures 1-3/4 × 3/8 inches. The chain is 5-1/2 inches long. The coins measure 5/8 inch in diameter.

Clip is in excellent vintage condition, with minor wear. Card is in good vintage condition.
