This charming figurine is in the shape of a young woman wearing an off-the-shoulder long dress, with ruffles, gathers, and bows. She is holding a bouquet of flowers to her bosom, which matches the flowers at her waist and decorating the gown. The toe of one shoe is showing at the bottom of the skirt, decorated with a bow. Her blonde hair is coifed 1940s style. Her face shows the thick, distinctive lashes for which this pottery company was known. The woman entrepeneur who started and headed up deLee Art was named Jimmie Lee. This very successful company was a leader in the early California Pottery movement. This example is marked S on the bottom, no doubt the mark of the artist who decorated this piece, painting all the details by hand. There is fine crazing over much of this piece, visible only on close inspection. The underside of the tip of the toe has a very small flea bit chip to the glaze which is not visible when the piece is standing on a surface.
Measures 7-3/4 inches tall. Base is 2-3/4 × 3 inches.
Very good vintage condition.
