1920s Noritake Morimura Handpainted Parrot Porcelain Lusterware Handled Dish
This delightful dish dates to between 1921 and 1924. The gracefully shaped shallow porcelain bowl has a sturdy gilded handle. The fine white porcelain is handpainted with the image of a charming tropical bird alighting on a flowering branch. The border of the dish is periwinkle lavender-blue iridescent lusterware that shimmers with reflected rainbow colors. The handle has molded details on the two sides in the Arts & Crafts style. There are unexpected details in the colors of the painting - purple along the tree branch, subtle shading and color transitions in the bird’s wing, and baby blue blossoms on the flowering branch. Marked in green NORITAKE MADE IN JAPAN and with the M inside a wreath. There are no chips or cracks. Very slight wear to the gilding in a few areas.
Measures 6-1/4 × 9 inches. Top of the bowl is 1-3/4 inches tall. It is 3 inches tall to the top of the handle.
Excellent antique condition.
