1903 Madame Le Normand's Gipsy Fortune Telling Card Game - Frederick J. Drake & Co.

$155.00

This antique deck is an early version of the Madame (or Mlle.) LeNormand divination cards. it is rare in that it has 3 sheets of instructions included in the deck, including the publisher’s information and publication date. The deck is complete, with 36 cards. In each suit, the numbers 6 through 10 are represented, along with an Ace, Jack, Queen, and King. An early owner of this deck annotated in pencil all of the cards with clues and prompts to assist in divination. Despite these rather charming notes, the cards are in remarkably fine condition, with no missing corners, no creasing, and no stains. One card has a wrinkled alligator-like surface and there is some yellowing from age on most of the cards. The backs of the cards are undecorated. Included with the cards are two folded instruction sheets. One of these gives the publisher as Frederick J. Drake & Co. Home Game Company of Chicago and dates the deck to 1903. The other is printed on one side in English and on the other in Germany, with notes from Madame Le Normand’s son. Affixed to the bottom of the box is another set of instructions with the same publication information. We have not attempted to remove or examine more closely that paper. The box is clean and bright with normal and expected wear and scuffing from age.

Box measures 2-1/2 × 3-1/2 inches.

Very good antique condition.
