Book Details: This is the first volume of a two-volume set. In this volume, the author details the scientific foundations of pharmacologic practice as it was understood at the time. He then goes on to discuss specific remedies, mostly plant-based but also some minerals and metals. Included are very interesting sections on the use of coffee, tea, opium, camphor, and other “tonics.” The Treatise on Therapeutics was one of the medical books issued to Union Army medical personnel by the Surgeon General of the United States during the American Civil War.
Condition: Leather cover is dry, with peeling corners and spine ends. Binding is intact. Pages are toned, with some minor foxing throughout. Some folded corners. One torn page corner - page 3 lower right corner is missing. No text has been disturbed with this loss, as the text ends above this level and the other side is blank.
